How it works

  1. Step 1
    Patentability Assessment

We conduct a prior art search and assess whether your invention meets the criteria of novelty, inventive step, and industrial applicability.

  2. Step 2
    Provisional Filing

A provisional specification is filed to establish your priority date. This gives you 12 months to develop and complete the application.

  3. Step 3
    Complete Specification

The complete specification with detailed claims is drafted by our technical experts and filed within 12 months of the provisional application.

  4. Step 4
    Request for Examination

A request for examination (Form 18) is filed. The Patent Office typically issues a First Examination Report within 48 months of filing.

  5. Step 5
    Prosecution

We respond to the First Examination Report (FER) and attend hearings to overcome objections and advance the application to grant.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between provisional and complete specification?

A provisional specification is a brief description filed to secure a priority date. A complete specification includes the full description, drawings, and claims, and must be filed within 12 months.

How long does patent protection last?

A granted patent provides 20 years of protection from the date of filing, subject to payment of annual renewal fees.

What can be patented in India?

Any invention that is novel, involves an inventive step, and is capable of industrial application can be patented — subject to exclusions such as mathematical methods, business methods, and discoveries.

Can I file internationally from India?

Yes. India is a member of the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT). We can file a PCT application designating 150+ countries, using your Indian application as the basis.

What are annual renewal fees?

Patents must be renewed annually from the 3rd year onwards by payment of renewal fees. We offer renewal reminder and filing services.
